Science Department Wish List
Parents,
We greatly appreciate those of you who have made donations to the 6th grade Science Department. You have made a difference in our efforts to better enable students to have interesting and meaningful hands-on science experiences. We still require few more items during the course of a school year. Again, these are those things that many of you may have in your homes already. We are asking those of you who still want to make contributions to select one or more items listed below to donate to our science program.
Earth Science
Updated Wish List
One package of latex or vinyl gloves
One box of Epsom or rock salt
One box of straws
One package of clothespins
One ball of string, twine, or yarn
One small box of crayons or colored pencils
One used fish tank
One box of freezer bags
One box of cornstarch
One box of food coloring
One box of aluminum foil
One bottle of hand sanitizer
One box of facial tissue
One bottle of cooking oil
One bottle of rubbing alcohol
One bag of potting soil
One bag of sand
One box of borax
One package of balloons
Your child may still receive credit for homework assignments for bringing one or more of the items above. Just send the items with the student when they come to school in the morning. Remind them to bring the items directly to their science teacher for credit. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your support.
Sincerely,
Vonda Shands, M.Ed.

Science Projects
Science projects will be due on January 26th and 27th.. All my students are required to complete one. In order to complete a quality project. Please follow the following steps:
Science Project Checklist*
- Ask a Question that you can investigate yourself.
- Begin a Journal to write down everything you do, observe, and think during your investigation.
- Do Research on the topic of your question.
- Form a Hypothesis about what you think the answer to your question will be.
- Plan a Procedure to Test your hypothesis. Decide what Materials you will need and write Step-by-step Directions for what you will do and how you will do it. Make sure you follow the rules for Science Safety.
- Construct a Chart to help you Collect and Organize your Data.
- Fill out you Science Project Proposal and sign it. The have your teacher and parents sign it too! Do this before you actually do the steps of your procedure.
- Follow the step-by-step directions of your procedure and Record your data onto your chart.
- Summarize the Results of your testing in a Written Summary.
- Make a Graph of the results, so others can see at a glance what you’ve learned.
- Write a Conclusion statement which either restates your hypothesis (if it is supported) or revises it (if it is not supported).
- Write a Science Project Report that summarizes your investigation.
- Construct your Science Project Display.
- Be prepared to give an Oral Presentation.
